As good as
Adult Web Server servers are, it means nothing unless the network
traffic is passed over is top notch. All customers are connected
to our core switches via 100mb Ethernet connections and Gigabit
ethernet is also available. In addition, Adult Web Server offers
specialized load-balancing and fail-over features as well as private
networking options.
Load
Balancing and Failover
All servers
on Adult Web Server's network can be easily and inexpensively
setup for load balancing and failover. What does this mean?
Load balancing
will distribute traffic between multiple servers according to
several different methodologies the most popular of which is how
many concurrent connections are on each server.
For example,
if server A has 10 concurrent users and server B has 15 users
while C has 5 users, the load balancer will send the next visitor
to server C. Please note that pure loadbalancing provides absolutely
no failover. If server C is down, then the system will continue
to send customers to server C as part of its load balancing scheme.
Failover
will detect if a particular server is not responding or is overloaded.
If the server is determined to be unresponsive, then the load
balancer will redirect requests to the "downed" server
to another server. This allows Adult Web Server to provide almost
100% uptime to the particular site. This feature can even test
down to the application level as often a server may be operating
correctly, but the application a site relies on has crashed.
For example,
a Cold Fusion server may respond properly to ping and traceroutes
and the web server may even be operating correctly and serving
up HTML pages, but Cold Fusion may be down and not accessing the
back-end database properly. The failover system is designed to
detect this problem and insure that the malfunctioning server
does not receive requests until the problem is solved.
